Openstack regions

In OpenStack, a region represents independent infrastructures, only sharing a common point for logging in and authentication. All resources such as networks, images, virtual machines, and storage are separate entities isolated from other regions.

OpenStack users have access to two regions:

  • BST: Servers located in the BST data center on Jana Pawła II,
  • DCW: Servers located in the DCW data center on Wieniawskiego.

Typically, a project is allocated resources in one region upon creation. However, it is possible to obtain resources in both regions to implement High Availability (HA) scenarios.

The BST region has availability zones:

  • Supermicro-2015
  • Quanta
  • Inula-1
  • Inula-2
  • Inula-3

The DCW region consists of only one availability zone.

Availability zones separate the virtualization server infrastructure, but they may share storage and network.
